Every horse has their own personality and unique nature about them, but many times their behavior reflects a negative relationship with a human during the course of their lifetime. Sometimes that negative relationship is as simple as an owner who mis-communicates and confuses the horse or does not understand the horses needs, and sometimes the human has been intentionally neglectful or abusive. The end result is a horse that doesn't trust humans and usually has some behavioral issues to boot.
The scale of behavior problems ranges from simple to complex and dangerous. While every horse can make improvement, not every emotionally scarred horse will become a calm reliable mount. Being realistic about your horses condition and prognosis is important. Helping your horse will be a journey, but an amazingly rewarding one.
